Living In The Spotlight.
The Journey hasn't just begun for Paige Mahogany Parks. I have been an activist for Trans rights for over 27 years. I received the Dean Mckeller award in 2005 for the work I did helping the TGLQI+ community of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty when it comes to my TGLBQI+ community. Everyone that knows me, knows that I am not going to let politicians, police, or anyone bully me. I am the voice for the community who have no voice, and often it’s the black and brown trans community.
The black and brown trans community doesn’t speak up enough about the oppression systemic issues facing our community. What little laws have changed for the trans community is just what I said, Little Laws. We dare not try to challenge anyone for equality or anything that will benefit us, so we just sit quietly and continue to wait on the opportunities to come our way. Yes, the black and brown trans communities have come a long way. We are more visible than ever yet, we still face discrimination, homelessness, murders, no job, and no education more than any demographic of people in the world. As long as I am here on this journey of life. I will keep fighting for my community.
